Daniel Lawless Joins Energous Corporation as New VP of Regulatory Affairs

Company hires former Broadcom executive to lead regulatory approvals and drive forward the deployment of WattUp into the marketplace

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/23/18 -- Energous Corporation (NASDAQ: WATT), the developer of WattUp®, a revolutionary wire-free, power-at-a-distance charging technology, today announced the appointment of Daniel Lawless as vice president of regulatory affairs for the company, effective immediately. Lawless joins Energous from Broadcom, where he oversaw technical operations teams which led government regulatory approvals, high volume manufacturing, and the deployment of first-to-market technologies. He replaces Jeff McNeil who plans to pursue a leadership role in operations outside the company.

"We are indebted to Jeff for his role in achieving the first FCC Part 18 power-at-a-distance certification. Jeff was initially brought on board to build out Energous operations, which are no longer necessary given our relationship with Dialog. Energous is also fortunate to have identified an experienced global regulatory leader who can take our current regulatory momentum to the next level and expand it worldwide. Lawless brings a strong regulatory background to the company that will be instrumental to the organization as we enter our next phase of growth, largely centered around execution," said Stephen R. Rizzone, CEO of Energous. "Dan's global experience and strong customer orientation are critical assets as we deploy our WattUp technology into the market in 2018. The FCC Part 18 certification was the first step in a global process to execute on our vision of making the WattUp ecosystem as ubiquitous as Wi-Fi."

Lawless has an extensive background in global regulatory and compliance engineering, including radio frequency (RF), safety, EMC and SAR testing, automation, standards development, as well as product-level government approvals. Prior to joining Energous, he served as director of engineering at Broadcom for seven years where he led world-class engineering and program management teams to drive production of Broadcom's substantial data center and wireless product lines. Lawless worked with the company's global R&D organizations, marketing and sales, key suppliers, and high-volume contract manufacturers to support large scale product deployment and system integration. Prior to this role, Lawless held the position of senior manager of compliance engineering and system operations at Broadcom for nearly nine years before he was promoted to director of engineering. Lawless also served as vice chair of the Regulatory Task Group at Wi-Fi Alliance where he led the engagement with global government agencies and standard organizations, and he was on the board of directors of the TCB Council, Inc. Lawless graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

"With more than 20 years of experience in regulatory, I am proud to have joined the Energous team at such an important time in their growth," said Daniel Lawless, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Energous. "This role allows me to apply my expertise and strengths in working with regulatory bodies to bring new innovations to market. With Energous, I am excited to dive in and affect change that stands to impact the consumer electronics industry on a massive scale."
